Video based Job Advertisements, Applications and Interviews
WotJob is a video based job advertisement, application and interview platform. It allows employers to create video based job advertisements and receive video based applications and conduct video based interviews. Candidates can search for jobs and apply for them by sending an introductory video and CV.
WotJob is a cloud based platform, with a web based admin portal for employers and a mobile app for candidates. The mobile app is available on iOS and Android.
The founder of WotJob first approached us with an interest in our functional specification service. We worked with him to create a detailed spec for the platform, which he then put out to tender. We were successful in winning the tender and partnered with the WotJob team to build the initial version of the platform.
One of the main requirements of WotJob was to be able to send, view and create videos as quickly and as conveniently as possible. We used a number of different technologies to achieve this.
For the native mobile apps, we used the camera functionality to record videos then the FFMPEG video compression library to compress the videos before uploading them to the cloud. This allowed us to upload videos quickly and efficiently, even on slow connections.
When viewing and streaming videos, we used the HLS video streaming protocol. This allowed us to stream videos quickly and efficiently. We also used the HLS protocol to allow users to skip to different parts of the video without having to download the entire video.
For the web based admin portal, we used the HTML5 video player to allow users to view videos. The videos uploaded via the web portal were transcoded to HLS format on the server side, as most web browsers weren't powerful enough to efficiently transcode videos internally.
The project went through several iterations and was completely re-branded at one point. We worked closely with the WotJob team to ensure that the platform was built to their exact requirements throughout the process, and they were incredibly happy with the work that we delivered for them.
